British Grand Prix
British Grand Prix, 4th - 6th July 2008, Silverstone
First used in 1948, Silverstone hosted its first F1 GP the same year. Built on the site of a World War II airfield, it is very flat mainly consisting of a series of long straights connected by fast, open corners. Over the last 12 years, a number of modifications have been made to the corners around the Grand Prix circuit to add extra interest, and more overtaking and viewing points. From a driver’s perspective, Silverstone’s 5.1 kilometres are some of the most formidable on the Formula One calendar. 
The Becketts/maggots complex is rated among the best corners of any circuit. The owners, the British Racing Drivers Club, have invested heavily in the pit and paddock facilities and the grandstands and spectator areas.
With the closest train stations half an hour’s drive from the track, road is the easiest method of getting to Silverstone, which is located around 130 kilometres north of London’s two main airports, Heathrow and Gatwick, both of which are connected to London city centre by express train links.
