Formula 1 Hungaroring
Fri 29th Jul 2011 to Sun 31st Jul 2011
Hungaroring
Situated just outside beautiful Budapest the Hungaroring is a modern track, designed and build in the mid eighties. Favoured by drivers and teams because of the lovely town of Budapest. The F1 Hungarian Grand Prix is held at Mogyoród, 20 km northeast of Budapest. The racetrack is in a valley, surrounded by a beautiful hillside, so you can enjoy much of the race from any point. You can also follow the race on several, well-positioned giant TV screens.
The first Hungarian Grand Prix was held on June 21, 1936 over a 3.1-mile (5.0 km) track laid out in Népliget, a park in Budapest. The Mercedes-Benz, Auto Union, and Ferrari teams all sent three cars and the event drew a very large crowd. However, politics and the ensuing war meant the end of Grand Prix motor racing in the country for fifty years.
A major coup by Bernie Ecclestone saw the 1986 Hungarian Grand Prix become the first Formula One race to take place behind the Iron Curtain. It also held the distinction of being the only current Grand Prix venue that had never seen a wet race up until the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix. That race also saw Mansell's seventeen-year-old record of winning from 12th place on the grid broken, as Jenson Button took his victory from 14th on the grid.

Last year it was confirmed that the Hungaroring will continue to host Formula 1 World Championship races until 2016.
